Welcome to the Crescent City Coin Club of New Orleans, Louisiana!

LNA Coin Show
July 12-13, 2008
Hope you made it!

Attendance totaled 428 patrons!  We received positive feedback from all.

Special thanks to Bob Eddy, Linda Eddy, and all those who helped to set-up, take-down, and run the show.

  • Special recognition to prospective member Patti Bennett who sold a record-breaking 170 raffle tickets before the show!  This contributed to total sales of 939 raffle tickets which is more sold in many years.

  • The raffle tickets help cover the cost of the VFW hall and other expenses generated by the show.  It's how we're able to keep our dealer table prices so low and not charge admission!

The Crescent City Coin Club has a long-held reputation for hosting shows with an excellent ratio of patrons to dealers!

For information on future shows, contact Bob Eddy, Show Chairman, at (504) 455-7078.

Robert Caradona elected to replace Vic Turner on the Crescent City Coin Club Board of Governors
To fill the vacancy on the Board of Governors, Robert Caradona was elected to replace Vic Turner.  Vic Turner, a Past-President and long-time member of the club, died on June 19, 2008.

Meet Vice President Michael Buras
My name is Mike Buras, and I have been dealing with ancient coins and artifacts for over 15 years.  I am the owner of Artifact Man Ancient Coins, Ltd.  Check out my vcoins.com stores opening soon.  I am the vice president of the Crescent City Coin Club, a member of the American Numismatic Association, the Louisiana Numismatic Association, and have been teaching Ancient History and Advanced Placement U.S. Government in the New Orleans area for the past 7 years.  I buy and sell ancient coins, modern world coins, U.S. coins, and ancient artifacts as a second profession.  This allows me the opportunity to provide my students with hands-on knowledge of different ancient civilizations.  When I finish teaching about each culture, I sell the coins and artifacts for the purpose of buying some from the next culture on my teaching agenda.  However, I specialized in Greco-Roman Histories, so most of my items will come from those two cultures.  Through years of experience and schooling, I have acquired a great bit of knowledge about ancient numismatics.
My aspiration is to open a gallery or museum in this area.  Since I'm one of the few ancient historians in the area, I feel it is necessary to share the joys of analyzing and collecting ancient things with everyone out here.  I also collect gold, silver, and platinum United States bullion coins.  I enjoy bringing the modern U.S. coins to my classes to compare them with the ancient ones.  It is amazing to see how much each culture has borrowed coin making techniques, styles, and symbols over the past 2500 years.

New Orleans Mint

Did you know that New Orleans had a branch mint that operated from 1838 to 1909?

Did you know that 427 million gold and silver coins bearing the mint mark "O" were minted in the Crescent City?

Learn more about our mint in this article from Numismatist written by Greg Lambousy, Director of Collections:

Cent Redesigned

The U.S. Mint is introducing new designs for the Lincoln cent in 2009.

2009 is the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln cent.

Did you know that in 1909 when the Lincoln cent was introduced, it was controversial?  It was the first time that someone who actually lived was depicted as Liberty, the required device on the obverse of all United States coinage.
