The cost was only $20 per person and there was boiled crawfish, boiled shrimp, boiled potatoes, and corn on the cob.  The price even included beer and soft drinks.  To top it off, Ruth served an outstanding cake!

Causeway Boulevard in 1956
This photo was taken during the opening ceremony of the Causeway Bridge in 1956.  That's the water tower near Veterans and Causeway Boulevards, and the Huey P. Long Bridge barely visible at the top of the picture.  Metairie has changed a little!

New Orleans Mint

Did you know that New Orleans had a branch mint that operated from 1838 to 1909?

Did you know that 427 million gold and silver coins bearing the mint mark "O" were minted in the Crescent City?

Cent Redesigned

The U.S. Mint is introducing new designs for the Lincoln cent in 2009.

2009 is the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln cent.

Did you know that in 1909 when the Lincoln cent was introduced, it was controversial?  It was the first time that someone who actually lived was depicted as Liberty, the required device on the obverse of all United States coinage.
